Comprehensive individual assessments
A detailed assessment of your child's development in all relevant areas is made, including listening, attention, speech, language, communication, social and play skills. This gives a detailed profile of your child's strengths and weaknesses, which enables a treatment programme to be devised tailored to his/her individual needs. This on occasions may involve parents attending weekly for several weeks, followed by appointments at less frequent intervals. For others three or four sessions only may be required. The therapist will discuss with you following the assessment the most effective way of working with you and your child.
A summary report of the assessment findings is provided and support, liaison and advice to school and nursery staff as appropriate.
Individual therapy sessions
The emphasis is to work with parents to providing their child with highly adapted language that matches the child's individual language and communication needs identified in the assessment. Programmes are discussed, demonstrated and shared in these sessions.
