The CHILD'S TALK approach

CHILD'S TALK is aimed to help children who are having difficulties in acquiring speech, language or social communication skills, whether these exist in isolation in children who are developing normally in every other area, or are associated with other difficulties. CHILD'S TALK aims to establish the foundations for all later language and learning, these foundations include interaction, the understanding and use of language, communication, listening, attention and play. These skills develop in stages and a great deal can be done to help young children to move easily and effectively through them.

The programme is tailored to the individual child's needs, and will often require supplementary items. One essential feature is that at no time is the child made aware of the fact that he or she has a problem; as far as they are concerned all that is happening is having a regular and thoroughly enjoyable playtime with a parent or carer.

The approach is at all times developmentally appropriate, natural and enjoyable for both parent and child. Although it is soundly based in clinical experience, linguistic theory and cutting edge research, it is also firmly rooted in natural interaction. No artificial teaching situations are ever set up; CHILD'S TALK fits into the normal relaxed pattern of your child's day.

CHILD'S TALK helps parents make subtle changes to the interaction and giving a little of the right stimulus which can have great benefit to your child's development. The programme facilitates language growth by helping you to provide the right input that is tailored to your child's developmental level and emerging skills. Thirty minutes a day is fine, although you are likely to find that some of the suggestions will carry naturally and effortlessly into other daily routine situations.
